THE DOORWAY, PARIS (2025– )

An ongoing spatial and perceptual archive

The Doorway, Paris is a long-term conceptual project that investigates the doorway as a threshold — a point of transition between public and private, visible and concealed, access and restriction.

Each photographed door is approached not as an isolated object, but as a situated condition within the city — a surface where architecture, behavior, and perception intersect.

The project operates simultaneously as:

– a visual archive

– a geographical mapping system

– a perceptual study of thresholds

Each doorway is:

– documented in its original urban context

– precisely located and indexed on a custom map

– integrated into an expanding archive

The mapping is not secondary — it is part of the work itself.

Together, the images construct a navigable system through which the city can be read via its points of entry.

Conceptual Ground

A doorway is never neutral.

It defines who can enter, who must remain outside, and how space is mentally structured.

Without instruction, without signage, a threshold already directs behavior.

This project asks:

How much of the city is governed not by physical barriers, but by perceived boundaries?

Method & Expansion

The archive is continuously expanding.

New doorways are added over time — each one photographed, mapped, and incorporated into the system.

The process is open-ended and accumulative, allowing the work to grow as a living structure.
